S1 - Technical due diligence of new wind farms

13 Nov - From 10:00 to 11:50

Introduction

Before committing to new wind projects, asset owners must ensure a rigorous technical due diligence process to mitigate risks and optimize long-term performance. This discussion will cover key areas such as wind resource assessment, turbine technology selection, grid compliance, and long-term O&M considerations. We will also explore lessons learned from past projects, focusing on common pitfalls and best practices to improve investment decisions. By sharing experiences, we aim to refine due diligence strategies that lead to more reliable and profitable wind farms.

Your moderator for this roundtable

A knowledgeable person, headhunted among our members, will soon be added here as a moderator.

We will make sure to recruit a person who is both a social person, dedicated to sharing and very knowledgeable in his/her field. His/her company is most likely a leading player in renewables. O2O WIND usually hosts these turbine-specific owners' meetings, but we have asked our dear members to help us in Madrid.

Is this your cup of tea?

Are these the challenges you are expected to develop in your professional role?

  • How to ensure the wind resource assessment is accurate and based on long-term validated data?

  • How to select turbine models that are best suited for the site’s wind conditions and terrain?

  • How to design a wind farm layout that minimizes wake effects and maximizes energy production?

  • How to secure grid connection and ensure compliance with local regulations?

  • How to identify and mitigate key risks in construction, including permitting, logistics, and installation?

  • How to negotiate strong warranty terms, power curve guarantees, and O&M agreements?

  • How to predict and manage long-term performance, degradation rates, and failure risks?

  • How to ensure a reliable supply chain for spare parts and technical support?

  • How to assess the financial impact of curtailment, grid congestion, and regulatory changes?

  • How to fully assess and mitigate environmental, social, and permitting risks?

Joining this discussion with identical peers from other WTG owners will give you a broader understanding, an expanded network and valuable insights.

Your top challenge – directly included

This roundtable is based on real and current challenges held among the participants. You will have direct input on your top challenge and insights into your peer’s top challenges.

  1. Before the event - submit your top challenge.

  2. At the event - discover your peers' challenges, have input on yours and discuss solutions.

  3. After the event - receive a summary of the findings from all roundtables, providing valuable insights for all.

Once you have registered your team, each individual will receive a link to select roundtables and submit their top challenges. A dummy is shown at this link.
